Patent Fees (Maintenance Fees)

About Patent/Maintenance Fees
- Payment of the patent fee is necessary to maintain the patent right.
- Since the patent fee (for first to third years) needs to be paid after deciding to grant the patent, the first to third years’ patent fee will be presented in the estimate sheet.
- Whether to pay the patent fee to maintain the right after the fourth year can be arbitrarily selected.
- On the right, by way of example, an example of patent fee and office commission fee for each year for a case of five claims is shown.
For a case with five claims, the following patent fees (maintenance fees) would be required:
- Year 4–6: Approximately US $160
- Year 7–9: Approximately US $350
- Year 10-20: Approximately US $850
Notes:
- The patent fee for each year is different depending on the number of claims.
- Generally, the extinguished right cannot be recovered without paying the patent fee.

Utility Model Registration Fees (Maintenance Fees)

- Payment of registration fee is necessary to maintain the utility model right.
- Since the registration fee (for the first to third years) needs to be paid at the time of application, the first to third years’ registration fee will be presented in the estimate sheet.
- Whether to pay the registration fee to maintain the right after the fourth year can be arbitrarily selected.
For a case with five claims, the following registration fee (maintenance fee) would be required:
- Year 4–6: Approximately US $150
- Year 7–9: Approximately US $300
- The registration fee for each year varies depending on the number of claims.
- Generally, the extinguished right cannot be recovered without paying the registration fee.
